Town of Fushimi and Sake District
Leaving the shrine, Chris and I decided to walk through the small town outside the shrine, replete with many tourist shops and a festival-like atmosphere. Lots of food for sale. We tried the BBQd matcha mochi balls on a skiewer, dipped in teriyaki sauce. I would like to say I loved that but I didn't! However I ate the whole thing because I was hungry! Walking on, we finally encountered the Keihan line, as it was our intention to go see the sake district. I thought the Keihan line station looked cool, as it echoed the shrine coloring with the orange railings..
Here's a video of our train arriving.
Well, once we got to the sake district, I think we got lost a bit. We did find one brewery, and they were offering samples. The sake was the best I'd ever tasted. We considered getting a bottle but didn't. Unfortunately, as it was the weekend they were not running tours to the brewery facility. Maybe Chris can correct me, but I don't remember seeing the little village or the river shown in the website listed above. Or maybe it just looked different? I think we walked way too far out of our way somehow and got waylaid. But we did try sake!
